II. Academic Oversight

A.

Instructional Updates

Getting ready for SBAC in March - early window so NWEA brackets the year. Teachers are preparing students. Focusing on explaining unfamiliar language to students.

B.

Attendance Data

School attendance average 92%

lower rates for lower grades. 8th grade is great.

Not a huge discrepancy by race.

SPED rates are the same as general ed

33% chronically absent.

Pre-pandemic, the averages were 94-95%

Hard to pinpoint appropriate outreach. Still in a pandemic, families have a lot going on.

Two new positions posted - Montessori coach and a Student Services director - gives admin more capacity to support attendance.

Interested to know where other charter schools are with this - how to find out? reach out to other people.

Are there ways to build in community support around families with the highest rate of absenteeism? Peer outreach?

C.

Board retreat follow up - Role of Academic Oversight Committee

Dashboard: a tab on our website. Board designed fed by data from ops and data consultant.

Need to determine specifics of each aspect that we would want to highlight  from standardized testing - % of students who are proficient and above, etc

Action: Kara and Donald to research other charter school's websites to see if they have something like a dashboard.

Ways to retain middle school parents: provide lists of ways to participate in things people are looking for in larger middle schools - create resource for our website to link to for parents.

III. Closing Items

A.

Topics for next meeting

ongoing discussion around role of academic oversight

B.

Adjourn Meeting

There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 4:41 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,
K. Fortuna
