Instructional Updates

Assessments

  • Identified students to retest NWEA through coaching with teachers - currently setting up and hope to begin next week.
  • Setting up for State testing; planning to happen first three weeks of May
  • Question on family communication plan: Communication to families will happen in weekly updates
  • Question on practice tests: Will do practice tests soon in auditorium space.

Other Instructional Updates

  • Starting transition process from Primary and 3rd grade to next level. Process is to create a snapshot of each transitioning student and determining best placement. Family night about this prior to spring break.
  • Part of this process is also setting up student portfolios; being built in coaching meetings with Daniel and teachers.
  • Jan: glad that portfolios are being started. Is there an opportunity for families to respond of provide feedback? Beginning of the year will be the best time for that.
  • Middle school health curriculum: reaching out to contractors but not having much response. Previously have done it in house but attempting to take it off teachers workload.

Panorama survey results

  • 74% student response rate, 20% family feedback (ok compared to past)
  • student: 3rd & 4th, 7th & 8th grade results are higher; upper el is trending lower than previously.
  • drop in sense of safety for hispanic students.
  • staff: drop in sense of safety in white staff and newer staff; increase in other groups; increase in leadership results
  • family:all slightly down. communication: sense of admin communication up; understanding student's learning goals is down.
  • discussion around comparison to last year when in distance learning might not be the most helpful. would like to look at spring or fall 2019
  • wider range of groups responded; usually primarily white families that respond
  • followup: what are next steps/follow up with families/students?
