Urban Montessori Charter School welcomes your participation at Board meetings. The purpose of a public meeting of the Board of Directors (“Board”) is to conduct the affairs of the organization in public. Your participation assures us of continuing community interest in our school and assists the Board in making the best decisions for our school. To assist you in the ease of speaking/participating in our meetings, guidelines are provided at the bottom of this agenda. All materials for all board and committee meetings, including audio recordings of Regular Board Meetings, are available via http://www.urbanmontessori.org/board_of_directors.

Call the Meeting to Order

H. Thomas called a meeting of the Academic Oversight Committee of Urban Montessori Charter School to order on Tuesday Aug 10, 2021 at 4:49 PM.

Approve Minutes from May 18th, 2021 Meeting

J. Faraguna made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Oversight Committee Regular Meeting on 05-18-21.
L. Bentley Tammero seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Academic Oversight

A.

Instructional Updates: Summer School and planning for the Fall

  • Summer school was great! 1st - 6th grade classrooms
  • Summer has been busy with staffing changes. Unfortunately a few teachers, support teachers and specialists, and operations resigned in July/Aug. Shifting staffing and hiring replacements is going well though. 2 positions open.
  • Teacher PD has been going really well. People are really excited to be back. Morale is very high. 
  • Have been building up systems. Partnering with Public Montessori in Action. Example: curriculum guide, record keeping (using Transparent Classroom), common lesson planning tools (standardizing across levels, working with a template), common observation tools, behavior system with PMA, child study. Positive reaction from teachers. 
  • Reviewed spring NWEA MAP data.

B.

Universal TK

  • In discussion with the County about universal TK. Can make one-off exceptions but cannot broadly change the birthdate at this time. 
  • Expecting a few more TK students this year who are younger siblings.

C.

Renewal Updates

  • Trailer bill passed. Not allowed to apply for renewal. Cannot evaluate until data are available.
  • Charter extended to June 2024.

Committee Leadership and Schedule

  • Move time up to 4:15pm, keep second Tuesday.
