Urban Montessori Charter School welcomes your participation at Board meetings. The purpose of a public meeting of the Board of Directors (“Board”) is to conduct the affairs of the organization in public. Your participation assures us of continuing community interest in our school and assists the Board in making the best decisions for our school. To assist you in the ease of speaking/participating in our meetings, guidelines are provided at the bottom of this agenda. I. Opening Items

Call the Meeting to Order
J. Faraguna called a meeting of the Academic Oversight Committee of Urban Montessori Charter School to order on Tuesday Mar 16, 2021 at 4:52 PM.

Approve Minutes from February 16th, 2021 Regular Meeting
O. Couch made a motion to approve the minutes from Olivia Academic Oversight Committee Regular Meeting on 02-16-21.
J. Faraguna seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.
II. Academic Oversight
A.
Return to In-Person Instruction updates
-a new round of teacher and family surveys have been conducted
-once this data has been utilized, another survey will be sent with more specific information
-there will not be a start date for a hybrid program yet determined as of this week
-next steps include planning meetings with teacher bands, and time for classroom teachers to unpack their classrooms
B.
UMCS Renewal Planning
-Updates from administration meeting with a rep from county
-Goal: to submit earlier rather than later, ideally in June or July
-Backwards planning of documents for renewal has begun
C.
Monthly Data Review
-revisited attendance and chronic absenteeism data which shows slight improvement over the last month, generally
-

Distance to In-Person Learning Update
discussed above in A.
E.
Discuss: Mandated State Testing
-Federal government continues to expect mandated state testing
-Will only work on UMCS computers
-Cannot test remotely
-Administration prefers to focus on NWEA
-Large districts and teachers' unions are advocating with the State Board of Education
-CA regulations prohibit schools from soliciting or encouraging a family to opt-out of state tests.
-Test is due to be half the length
-State Board of Education is meeting today about Waiver possibilities
-Will revisit next month

UMCS SoBEO Report Card draft updates
-discussed updates to SoBEO report card
-plan to continue to update and use as guide moving forward
-will revisit in April
III. Other Business
A.
Discuss 2022-23 LCAP
-next steps: to finish reflections and draft goal setting
-Academic committee will give it a close read with Questions and Comments before April meeting
-Approval date: June
