L. Ramirez called a meeting to order on Wednesday Aug 28, 2024 at 5:00 PM.

Introductions / Introducciones

Mr. Filidor and Mr. Ramirez introduced the importance of hosting our first TEACH DELAC/School Site Council at our TEACH Parent Center since surveys conducted in the spring suggests a parent interest for various workshop/classes at the center.

II. Committee Presentations / Presentaciones del comité

District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) Committee and School Site Council Presentations / Presentación del Comité Asesor Distrital del Idioma Inglés (DELAC) y Comite del Consejo del Sitio Escolar (SSC)

Mr. Filidor provided general information specific to the importance of DELAC and the need for a parent-led committee. The official formation of this committee will occur at our next DELAC meeting on September 25th.

 

Mr. Ramirez provided general information specific to the importance of School Site Council and the need for a parent-led committee. The official formation of this committee will occur at our next School Site Council meeting on September 25th.

III. TEACH Parent Leadership Committee / Comité de liderazgo de padres de TEACH

TEACH Parent Center / Centro para padres TEACH

Mr. Filidor and Mr. Ramirez led a general discussion of the TEACH Parent Center itself and its possible usage moving forward. Various parents showed specific interest in taking part in a TEACH Parent Leadership Committee in order to better serve in assisting to organize the parent center. The initial TEACH Parent Leadership Committee has been scheduled for Saturday, September 14th at 10am. 

 

Importantly, parents also shared general ideas specific to both the parent center and TEACH which included providing English courses, Spanish courses, financial literacy, anti-violence strategies, parent community service/volunteering, student mindfulness/mental health strategies, provide rewards/incentives for positive student behavior and generally strengthening of student dress policies.

TEACH Parent Workshops / Talleres para padres de TEACH

Mr. Filidor led a discussion specific to the spring parent surveys in determining workshop/class interests for this new academic school year. These included DMV/written test specific classes, ESL/technology classes, and mental health courses. Mr. Filidor announced that a general proposal will be finalized shortly that will focus on ESL/technology classes for the fall. Mr. Ramirez also shared that he is speaking to a local community health organization specific to a series of mental health wellness courses for the fall as well. Parents will be surveyed in determining specific interest. More to be generally shared soon.
