CTE Audit Update

Presenter: Ryan Mulvey, Assistant Superintendent

Assistant Superintendent Mulvey provided an update on the proposed Future Ready state graduation requirements and their connection to recommendations from the CTE audit. The Board reviewed proposed changes to credit requirements, including changes to CTE, personalized pathways, electives, mathematics, health and fitness, fine arts, and social studies. Discussion focused on potential impacts to district staffing, course offerings, student access and opportunities, and the implementation timeline.

The Board discussed whether the District could establish graduation requirements above the state minimum and potential implications, including costs, graduation access, and enrollment in Running Start. The Board also discussed the relationship between proposed state requirements and the CTE audit recommendations, including the potential impact of students having greater flexibility to substitute other academic courses for CTE credits.

Assistant Superintendent Mulvey outlined potential Board actions, including policy updates and changes to the PHS-specific career choices graduation requirement. If approved at the state level, the proposed requirements would apply to students entering seventh grade in 2026–27, with implementation required when those students enter high school. The Board also discussed concerns regarding the limitations and potential unintended consequences of the proposed personalized pathway options and concerns regarding aspects of the CTE audit.
