II. Education Excellence

A.

Discuss the work of the Education Excellence Committee from last year (20 minutes):

  • Eric: We would like to set an agenda for the year. First, by reviewing what the goals are that leadership has for the year. Next, to think through as a committee what we want to add for this year to take a look at in addition.
  • Eric: We'd like to talk about what the State the Report Card for The Exploris School means for the direction of the school.
  • The school received a C on the report card. What is this data telling us about our program?
  • This is
  • Ashley: Our current group of 5th graders are our first weighted lottery group.
  • Mark: The subgroup data can be insufficient because we are such a small school.
  • Eric: We should present a message for the board that reflects our thoughts.
  • Josh: We have put a lot of time, effort and resources into building the infrastructure for student support prior to this school report card coming out.
  • Ashley: It's important to note that during the pandemic, a lot of the experiential learning opportunities was much more difficult to create for our students.
  • The committee will bring this information and and suggestions of next steps to the board.

B.

What do we want the goals to be for this year? (20 minutes):

  • Eric: What are the goals for the committee this year?
  • We then reviewed the School Improvement Plan for this year.
  • The School Report Card highlights the needs we are addressing schoolwide.
  • Attendance, Academic Benchmarking and Universal Expectations are all part of the School Improvement Plan. All 3 will provide us with the road map for improving our School Report Card.
  • Eric: It is a significant point, how can we document the Exploratory part of the school.
  • Ashley: Kaizen will work to take the School Improvement Plan into actual action steps we can track throughout the year.
  • Ashley: The core of our experiential learning is through Expedition. How can we track how often this is happening?
  • Deb: The Education Excellence Committee annual report is always around Rigor, Relevance and Relationships. How do we build out more concrete metrics.
  • Mark: The Environmental Education certification process may be a great model to use to create some of these metrics.
  • Ashley: Jessi, Emily, Annah and I are all going through this EE certification process together.
  • Mark: This certification process measures a lot of the projects we want to demonstrate data and growth.
