A.
Introductions, Orientation to the Agenda, and Overview Focus
Committee oriented to the day's agenda and staff introduced themselves to the board.
III. Opening
A.
WASC Preparations and LCAP
Board gave feedback on the WASC action plan and discussed board participation in the upcoming WASC visit from 4/13-4/15. Board praised the fact that the document uses accessible language for educational partners to be able to engage with and gave specific feedback on various actions.
B.
Q&A on Pre-Read Materials
The board asked questions on all pre-read materials. This largely focused on the metrics used by Instruction Partners to track progress, the 8th and 10th grade pilot with the CCC, US course offerings for next year and student climate survey results. The committee noted that the upper school's list of curriculum is still under revision, and plans to give their recommendation on next year's curriculum at the June board meeting for approval.
IV. Curriculum and Instruction Review
A.
Goal 1: Support for All Learners
The committee discussed the central question of, "Where do you see meaningful progress and evidence of learning for all students, and how does that inform what we should continue, start, and/or stop?" Focus was given to math and ELA updates, coaching, and acknowledging that curriculum next year will not include Springboard.
B.
Goal 2: College and Career Readiness
The committee discussed the central question of, "What do we anticipate will be the opportunities and challenges of integrating college success support into existing MWA systems and our approach to doing things? As we deepen our commitment to college access, career exploration, and college success, what should we be doing differently next year?" Focus was given to course offerings and pushing college and career exposure to the lower grades.
C.
LCAP/WASC Goal 3: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The committee discussed the central question of, "Where are we succeeding in making every student feel seen, valued, and like they truly belong here — and where are the gaps we need to confront?" Focus was given to participation rates and recent shifts away from punitive action to restorative solutions, and how external observations of this shift may have been reflected in the student climate survey results. The need for attention to student perceptions of safety and fair treatment was discussed, as well as how the survey wording might be improved to generate a truer picture of student experiences. On the parent survey, the group discussed the low return rate and ways to improve it.
V. Closing Items
A.
Action Items/Next Steps
After further revision, the committee will review the full list of curriculum for next year before giving their recommendation to the bord at large in June.
B.
Good of the Order and Exit Tickets
