E.

Unrepresented Classified Staff Report

Nothing to report

F.

Faculty Report

Minh Ha - teachers are eager for UTLA negotiations to conclude. Wants to thank Nick and the parents who are leaving the board for their service.

Nick - we normally have a staff gathering at the end of the year, many staff disappointed we didn't have that this year.  Pam says the admin staff could not manage it this year but will try to have something in the fall.

G.

Human Resources Director (HR) Report

Martha - report stands as submitted. We will be reviewing and voting on several items that she has submitted tonight. We will have a mandated reporter training for board members under California law.

Wants to introduce the new administrators that we will be voting on tonight. John and Robbie. John has a great deal of experience and will be replacing Tyler Farrell.  Robbie is stepping up to take the lead in the Special Ed department. She has done a lot of work there this year to ensure compliance and improve the department.

H.

Director of Operations Report

Dr. Magee - Mr. Negroe's report stands as submitted. Wants to note the safety surveys and sampling that will be happening on campus in July. Spring break testing reports are already up on the LAUSD website.

Jane asked if there's a building and grounds committee for the new construction that will start in the fall. Dr. Magee says it's LAUSD construction so out of our hands.

I.

Director of Information Technology Report

Jeff Roepel - report stands as submitted.

Minh Ha - asked about status of copiers for staff.

Nick asked about replacing the copy clerk. Martha says they will hire someone.

J.

nothing to report

K.

Chief Business Officer (CBO) Report

nothing to report, was reported in last week's budget board meeting.

L.

Executive Director/Principal (EDP) Report

Dr. Magee - report stands as submitted.

Thank you to Martha for serving on the board and welcome to Jeff.

Lisa Cahill - concerns about senior awards. very hard for students and parents to learn about the potential awards and try to qualify. Things should be fairly and consistently awarded and well communicated, but that's not the case right now. She personally has asked repeatedly from counseling office and college center members what were things her son could qualify for or work toward and never got an answer. Honor society info and representative is not even on our website.

Minh Ha - we should have a clear policy about what insignia and items students are allowed to wear at graduation. It seems confusing that they were not allowed to wear some of the items of recognition.

Dr. Magee - counseling office can work to clarify all of this. It got a little complicated with all the cords.  We will work on reorganization.

VI. Board Committees (Stakeholder Board Level Committees)

A.

Academic Accountability Committee Update

Nothing to report

B.

Budget & Finance Committee Update

Jane Davis - the committee is continuing to monitor the budget and expect to have another review and vote after we learn about hold harmless status.

The committee does not want to take any money out of reserves and the budget has to be balanced so we are looking at more cuts. If we have increased expenses because of UTLA negotiation outcome we will not access the reserves.

C.

Election Committee Update

Nothing to report

D.

Charter Committee Update

nothing to report

VII. Board Committees (Board Members Only)

A.

Audit Committee

Nothing to report

B.

Ad hoc committee will meet tomorrow

C.

Bargaining Committee

Waiting for updated budget to take back to negotiations, nothing to report right now.

VIII. Academic Excellence

A.

PCHS Website Review

  • Negeen - our website is a chaotic mess. Things are very hard to find, not in the natural locations, many pages are confusing. People find things more easily by googling than by searching in the site.
  • Fati - this doesn't require a financial investment, just each department working to clarify their pages.
  • Dr. Magee will work on improvements this summer. Ask each department to update their sections.
  • Lisa - asked about a site map. Jeff says we don't have one because our provider does not provide one.
  • Minh Ha - can we make changes in house? Jeff says yes.
  • Time is money and we are asking people to spend time on it. Martha says it can take hours and then requires constant updating and checking. Requires collaboration to ensure consistency of policies etc. posted on different pages and making sure we remove old links. This is a big project.
  • Lisa -if you have a website that actual functions and answers peoples questions then it cuts down on contacts and outreach to our staff with those questions.
  • Jeff - there's not one person in charge of the website so there's no consistency. We have ended up with a lot of stub pages that are not connected.  Too many cooks in the kitchen.
  • Lisa- would help to have a style book that we adhere to.
  • If we can cut down on phone calls and emails it would be a huge benefit to the staff even if it requires some investment now.
Amir Ebtehadj arrived at 6:09 PM.

IX. Finance

A.

Consideration of Allocating Hold Harmless Funds to Support Counseling Staff

  • Negeen -right now we don't have room in the budget to hire any additional counselors but if we get the hold harmless we should consider allocating funds for this.
  • Fati - American School counselors association recommends 250 students per counselor. Right now we are short staffed and well above that recommended caseload.
  • Minh Ha - we also lost an intervention counselor. This is an important priority but she's hesitant to commit to anything before we have more information about how much we get under the hold harmless and what our other needs will be.
  • Negeen - we just want this to be on the radar as one of multiple priorities

X. Proposed SB 848 Policy

A.

Approve SB 848 Policy

Martha Monahan made a motion to approve the Board Policy on Pupil Safety and School Employee Misconduct (SB 848), effective July 1, 2026.
Amir Ebtehadj seconded the motion.
  • Pupil Safety and School Employee Misconduct (SB 848)
  • The bill text was attached to the agenda.
  • This bill passed, it's focused on student safety, These are things our staff and teachers are already trained on every year, it's just that the state codified it into law.
  • Minh Ha - how much of this is taken directly from the law? Martha says this is exactly what the law requires.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

XI. Consent Agenda

A.

Finance Items: School Organized Conferences/Trips

Negeen Ben-Cohen made a motion to Approve Consent Agenda Re Finance Items: School Organized Conferences/Trips.
Minh Ha Ngo seconded the motion.

Minh Ha - would be good to have a teacher attend the AP conference as well in addition to the college counseling staff. A teacher's perspective would be beneficial. Dr. Magee says there's several teachers attending AP conferences in their particular areas over the summer.

The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.
