Call the Meeting to Order

M. Demirtas called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Rochester Academy Charter School to order on Tuesday Sep 15, 2026 at 9:07 AM.

Approve Minutes

M. Demirtas made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Excellence Committee Meeting on 06-09-26.
H. Hussein seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence

A.

Review Progress toward the WIG

Jen presented test results showing that the school performed below state averages in ELA across grades 3-8, though 7th and 8th grade math results were strong. The team discussed their action plan, which includes splitting elementary administrators into math and ELA support teams, implementing co-teaching, and focusing grade-level meetings on curriculum rather than student support. Jen stated that the team will continue to assess and improve results through continuous monitoring and professional development.

Review Graduation Data

Mehmet presented cohort graduation results showing the school's students consistently outperforming state averages across multiple years, with particular success in Cohort Regents results higher than the previous year's results including state averages. Mehmet also presented the 2025 Cohort Regents results compared with other charter schools.

Select regular meeting dates and times, set topic agenda

The committee approved the proposed meeting dates and time.

D.

Instructional Priorities for 2026-2027

Jen presented instructional priorities focused on moving learning responsibility to students.

E.

Review the Code of Conduct

Jen presented the proposed revisions to the Code of Conduct. The Committee will recommend the Board to review and approve the revisions.
