Call the Meeting to Order

B. Reyes-Lua called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Vida Charter School to order on Thursday Oct 13, 2022 at 4:03 PM.

Approve Minutes

V. Fonseca made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Excellence Committee Meeting on 09-08-22.
N. Oberholtzer Hess seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence

A.

Update on Instructional Coach, Coaching, and PD

  • In accordance to our new committee goals, a regular update will be provided by ED regarding the instructional coach position and impact. 
    • What data can be collected to measure the impact of the instructional coach?
      • annotative remarks from those receiving additional support 
      • one-on-one conversations with teachers and principal  
      • instructional coach documenting observations of classroom instruction (growth and areas of support) 
    • How do we measure the impact of the instructional coach to support the continual investment in the position?
      • Collecting teachers input on what do they need (both new and veteran teachers)
        • Ensuring that all teachers are receiving support and observation sessions
      • Providing the instructional coach with professional development opportunities to strengthen its role
  • Math coach is provided through IU12
    • Provides monthly one-hour professional development sessions to all math teachers
    • Will support in assessing math data for all grades 
      • use data to support changes to instruction  
  • 10/7 was half-day professional development that included teacher evaluations
  • 10/10 full day of school safety training

Comprehensive Planning Process

  • Vida is required to review comprehensive plan every 3 years
    • Important to create a group of stakeholders that represent the Vida Charter School community and serve as the steering committee 
    • Working on administering the Needs Assessment to collect data to craft goals and objectives 
      • Prior goals have included math achievement goals and other instructional goals.

2022-2023 Academic Excellence Committee Goals

  1. Committee will receive quarterly report of progress towards the goal of reaching a minimum of 50% of all students K-6  demonstrating math proficiency at or above grade level as measured by Acadience Math in Spring 2023. 
  2. All staff members will receive meaningful feedback on their work from an administrator or coach a minimum of once per month throughout the school year. 
  3. Committee will evaluate and provide feedback to the mid-year and end-of-the-year assessment of the impact of the instructional coach.
