II. Education Updates

A.

K - 12 Principal Updates

Interim Assessment: securing liability of data for remote testing.  January test results analysis: Joi - ELA director; Annika- STEM instructional head
Data collection method: Math and ELA use Edulastic platform: ELA and Math- short responses and constructed response questions

Data Analysis form: summary of data from IA 1 to IA 2; reflection questions; group students based on gaps (within the buckets of short responses and constructed response questions); identify Cusp students; prioritize qualitative goals (daily coaching and conference)

Lavinia training: used to be only used for ELA, this year adding math.  Built math meaning foundation -> structures for planning and teaching effective mastery lessons -> coach teachers and walk through data template
Aligning ELA and math with Lavinia - streamline

Corrective action plans: ID Cusp students and gaps within whole class.  Reteach sessions -> intensive coaching with students based on individual goals: average proficiency increased by 23.5% in math; ELA to be tested Feb 25

1-1 intensive coaching: weekly meetings with teachers to coach on how to best support their students move towards proficiency.
example: 7th grade - how does the small group structure work on breakout room to focus on specific, while other students work on other areas

What's next? teachers coaching students for daily instruction; students to understand their individual goals

Reteach is very different now - teaching points to measure how students learn

Jessi: how are teachers responding to the new teaching techniques?
Annika: Math team appreciated the slow and steady approach
Joi: ELA team is a bit overwhelmed with the new method; need to host PD around data analysis; daily best practices are used now.  Brand new teachers are struggling a bit.
Dan: how to tell the authorizer about proficiency? rebound plan for fall of 2021 - and renewal arguments
Joi: using IA results as metric
Kurt: state tests are not happening; school is operating under the impression that state tests are still occurring.  in school vs at home performance during IA 3 (closest to the state tests) in spring. After school tutoring program and summer school - focused on catching up and retention of skills for extra data
Annika: IA2 (where students should be) data and iReady (current standing) will help
Dan: schools going into renewals will need to present like the schools have never stopped, during the pandemic, with 2 likely years with missing data

Raw numbers on IA data: seeing some gains especially with Cusp students to reach 75%
Latoya: presented data
Dan: school in renewal shape with double digits higher than the district
Kurt: comparison with the district will be provided in the data dashboard; caveats in the barriers families are facing
Kurt: cohorts in 7th and 8th graders are used to the teachers norms; conducted student experience with teachers from different grades

Dan advice: IA 3 and 4 (close to state tests) for 3-8 grade (spring data); run summer academy

Kurt: incentives parents to agree to in-person testing

III. Other Business
