Call the Meeting to Order

Ellen Lodgen called a meeting of the Development & Communications Committee of MCCPS Board of Trustees to order on Thursday Nov 21, 2019 at 7:30 AM.

C.

Approve minutes of October meeting

Jeff Barry made a motion to approve the minutes from October 24 meeting Development Committee: October Meeting (rescheduled) on 10-24-19.
Susan Hauck seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Development Committee

A.

Calendar Raffle

  • As of today, the raffle netted $4600.
  • A suggestion was made to think about adding donated prizes on some of the days in addition to money prizes.
  • We will work towards having one yearly
  • Should identify specific goals for the funds, especially something for the students so they are excited about selling
  • Amy will speak about the calendar raffle at Exhibition
  •  

B.

Annual Appeal

  • decided to send out appeal in January
  • message about school's goals needs to be clear 
  • working on professionalizing the ask and wrapping it into our recruitment effort
  • Susan, Ellen, and Peter will meet about putting the appeal together
  • Amy suggested we avoid parent population for the appeal and go after them for the celebration sponsorships
  • Board should understand expectation that there is 100% participation in the appeal

C.

25th Anniversary Event

  • 15 people now on various committees
  • Susan elaborated who is doing what
  • work on locking in caterer by end of December

III. Other Business

A.

Student Success Fund

  • Peter sent out an email letter encouraging parents to participate
  • % participation
    • gr 4- 50%
    • gr 5- 44%
    • gr 6- 60%
    • gr 7- 50%
    • gr 8- 31%

B.

PTO

  • goal of PTO should be more about community building and less about fundraising
  • events
    • barbecue in fall
    • gr 4 Aug popscicle event
      • perhaps a second gr 4 event in fall for parents to connect
    • gr 6 parent event while kids at Nature's Classroom
    • gr 8 parent event while kids in DC
    • maybe bring back parent social evenings in a home

There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 AM.
