We will share the statements that we found and collect key elements from all the statements that we wish to use in our statement.  We want our statement to address what we do and why we do it.  (a value and mission statement).  The goal here is to get all our opinions heard and have an outline of what we need to include in our final draft.

I am Sara Pouladian, mother of two kids in our community which some of you have had the pleasure of teaching, tutoring, or coaching over the years.

On October 7th, our world changed. The horrific massacre in Israel has left a profound wound, not only in the hearts of those directly affected but for Jewish families and students worldwide. For many, this event isn’t just a tragedy happening elsewhere—it is deeply personal. It serves as a painful reminder of a history of violence and hatred that still haunts our community.

Our family has had four antisemitic events occur in the past seventeen months: one to our daughter, two to our son, and one at our home. Four Marblehead 10th & 11th graders shouted:  "You should be hanged, you are dirty Jews." I am the granddaughter of an Auschwitz death camp survivor.  My grandmother along with her two sisters watched their entire family get gassed, so you can imagine that these actions and events are deeply personal. My grandmother was part of Steven Spielberg's "The Shoah" which memorializes Holocaust survivor's stories so future generations will never forget.

Today, Jewish students and families are confronting a new wave of antisemitism—one that has evolved, taking on modern forms in our schools and communities. As educators, it’s crucial to recognize how this latest rise in hate impacts Jewish students emotionally, socially, and psychologically.

I understand it can be hard to grasp the pain Jews are experiencing, so I invite you to witness it firsthand. On April 1, at 7 pm,  October H8te will be showing at the Warwick Theater. This powerful documentary explores experiences on and after October 7,  and the ongoing fight against antisemitism. It’s an opportunity to better understand the challenges Jewish families and students are facing and learn how we can all work together to create a safer, more empathetic environment.
