The Board discussed student feedback shared by Board Director Nelson from the senior civic class, which included student stress related to competing academic and extracurricular demands, the need for improved coordination of major assignments and assessments, time and stress management skills, technology instruction, fundraising opportunities, and equitable access to athletic uniforms. Additional discussion addressed student attendance and engagement, keeping postsecondary pathways open, and expanding elementary enrichment opportunities through clubs, community partnerships, and potential summer camps. Board members also identified the importance of early intervention and support for students experiencing barriers to success, including concerns about achievement gaps.
The Board discussed potential next steps for responding to the proposed state graduation requirement changes, noting that the proposal remains subject to legislative action and that its final impact on the district is not yet known. Discussion included reviewing the proposal’s implications across departments, gathering additional feedback from the community and other school districts, developing district talking points, and determining the district’s position on individual components of the proposal to inform future advocacy efforts.
