Elementary Principals Present 2026-2027 School Improvement Plans (SIP)

Elementary principals presented their 2026–2027 School Improvement Plans, aligned with district goals, emphasizing academic growth and proficiency, especially for targeted subgroups, measured via Smarter Balanced state assessments in English Language Arts and Math. Each principal also outlined goals and strategies for addressing chronic absenteeism. Academic and attendance goals were organized by grade level and are supported by tiered intervention systems.

  • Franklin Elementary collaborative data review, and flexible WIN groups to provide targeted intervention, remediation, and enrichment.
  • Sunnyside Elementary emphasized data tracking, student goal-setting, peer observations, and collaborative teams to guide instruction and interventions. Sunnyside also plans to maintain 95% attendance and provide additional support to students at risk of chronic absenteeism.
  • Jefferson Elementary focused on strengthening attendance monitoring and family engagement, including identifying students at risk of chronic absenteeism and developing attendance support plans. Academic strategies emphasize essential standards, common formative assessments, and using student performance data to guide instruction and identify students needing additional support.
  • Kamiak Elementary emphasized improving fifth-grade attendance and setting grade-level ELA and math proficiency goals using MAP-projected state assessment scores. Additional targets address proficiency among identified student populations.

Across the schools, principals emphasized the importance of building student connections and fostering a sense of belonging to support attendance. They shared schoolwide initiatives designed to encourage students to attend school consistently.

In response to a question from Board Director Horn, each principal also outlined the clubs offered at their school. Principals noted that finding volunteers to lead clubs can be challenging, with many clubs primarily led by teachers.
