II. Governance 7:06 PM
  A. Conflict of Interest Policy update Vote Griselda Lara 10 m

The Conflict of Interest Policy is being updated as JJMS has removed a position. The responsibilities of that position were absorbed by another administrator.

The board should consider a motion to adopt the attached update of the Conflict of Interest policy.

  B. Master Plan for English Learners Vote Griselda Lara 10 m
  C. Policy for Conversion of Performance Stipend into salary at 20 years of Administrative leadership. Vote Griselda Lara 10 m

Currently, the Administrators at JJMS are eligible for an additional $10,000 per year in performance pay stipends as previously approved by the board.   The Board should consider allowing any employee who has provided 20 years of successful Administrative leadership at JJMS to convert that stipend into their salary.   The rationale for this change is that 20 years of administrative success at JJMS implies that performance pay is not an annual question but a basic expectation.

This change would assist admin with seniority in maximizing their pension.

The board should consider a motion to approve this change in compensation protocol.

  D. Elimination of Paraprofessional Positions Vote Victor Albores 10 m

JJMS currently needs additional Behavioral Intervention Implementation (BII) staff to support students' behavioral needs. The school currently employs eight (8) BIIs but has identified a need for ten (10). Due to budget constraints, JJMS is unable to maintain the current paraprofessional positions while also increasing BII staffing.  The JJMS administrative team has met with each paraprofessional, and all were willing to transition to BIIs.

The Board of Directors should consider a motion to approve the elimination of the current paraprofessional positions and the reallocation of those positions to support increasing BII staffing.

  E. Updated Uniform Complaint Procedure (UCP) Vote Griselda Lara 10 m

Attached is the updated UCP Policy, reviewed by our attorneys as part of the Parent & Student Handbook Review process. The revised policy includes the correct mailing address.

The board should consider a motion to approve this updated Uniform Complaint Procedure Policy.

  F. California Dashboard Board presentation FYI Myranda Marsh 10 m

The JJMS leadership will present an analysis of the CA Dashboard to the Board of Trustees. The CA Dashboard was released on October 15, 2026.

III. Finance 8:06 PM
  A. Financial Update & September Financials Vote Myranda Marsh 10 m

ExEd has prepared the fiscal summary through the month of September.

The board should consider a motion to approve the financials, including the cash flow, balance sheet, and check register.

  B. Revised Retention of Teachers CAASPP policy Vote Griselda Lara 10 m

In May of 2023, the Board approved the Retention of Teachers CAASPP Policy.

Renewal of our charter depends almost entirely on our meeting our commitment to outperform the LAUSD on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress.  This is the set of state-mandated tests in ELA, MATH, and SCIENCE that we must administer to our students every year.

When our students outperform LAUSD students on these tests, we are nearly guaranteed a charter renewal when it comes up every five years.

It is absolutely essential that we keep teachers who have a proven track record of raising student achievement on these public, quantifiable metrics.   Based on conversations with our staff, we believe that additional compensation is necessary to retain our most effective teachers, which will directly lead to the renewal of our charter.

The JJMS administration requests that the JJMS Board of Trustees approve the attached updated compensation based on CAASPP test scores.

  C. Teaching Staff Salary Table Vote Victor Albores 10 m

CALTRS is expected to require a publicly available pay schedule for teaching positions as a transparency measure, so teachers can track their earnings, which will be used to calculate future pension benefits.

The board should consider a motion to approve the attached a salary table.
