Call the Meeting to Order

L. Johnson called a meeting of the board of directors of GEO Academies EBR to order on Wednesday Feb 19, 2020 at 12:22 PM.

II. Facility

A.

GEO Prep Academy

Dana Teasley updated the Board on the GEO Prep facility financing discussion from the Finance Committee meeting on 2/18/2020, and reviewed with the Board the financing package on the Platt/Sherwood properties as finalized January 2020.

B.

Next Generation High School

Kevin Teasley confirmed for the Board that construction of the High School facility is on track and anticipated to be ready to open on time for school opening August 2020.

III. Finance

A.

Review 2nd Quarter Financials

Levar Anderson, Chair of the Finance Committee, shared with the Board the review of the 2nd Quarter Financials from the Finance Committee meeting on 2/18/2020, and noted that all three schools were currently showing revenue-positive.

Linda Johnson further noted that the Finance Committee has directed Dana Teasley, Business Officer, to look into ways to consolidate the three entities for ease of presentation and bookkeeping.

IV. Governance

A.

GEO Prep Academy

Linda Johnson noted for the Board that the current Management Agreement with GEO Foundation expires June 30 with the expiration of the current charter.  The Board will review and begin the process of discussion in preparation for renewing and revising the Agreement to be extended comensurate with the extension of the school's existing charter beginning July 1, 2020.

V. Other Business

Enrollment Update

Next Generation High School Principal Aleshia Taylor shared with the Board the current enrollment status and ongoing plans for 2020-21 plans, as well as current academic results.

Shirlon Clay, K-2 Principal at GEO Prep reported her enrollment from October to February remained the same, due to being able to enroll students from the waitlist.

Ms. Samantha Carter, 3-7 Principal at GEO Prep reported her enrollment was also substantially consistent.

Mid City Principal, Thelemese Porter, shared that the Mid-City enrollment was substantially the same between count periods, and that the school was projecting a significant jump for 2020-21.  The Board discussed the need for portables and/or additional storage for next year.
