C. Green called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of KIPP Memphis Public Schools to order on Monday Nov 20, 2023 at 4:36 PM.

Approve Minutes

S. Isabell made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Committee Meeting on 09-05-23.
H. Coleman seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence Presentation

A.

Chief Brook gave an overview and update of the following:

Academic Goals:

  • Success Rate for Elementary, Middle and High School
  • On-Track & Mastery for all campuses:  ELA, Math, Science & Social Studies
  • Attendance:  Chronic Out of School for all Campuses 
  • Graduation Rate for Seniors is 87%
  • Triweekly Assessments:  Given every three weeks to KIPPsters to diagnose problems in KIPPsters’ understanding or gaps in skills, and to help teachers decide next steps in instruction. 
  • Benchmark/Interim Assessments:  Given to help educators and administrators track KIPPsters' academic trajectory toward long-term goals and are administered three times each year (Fall, Winter and Spring)

Question:  

Committee Chair Green:  Is KIPP fully staffed with certified teachers for all the other ELA and Math Classes?

CEO Burt:  Algebra One was the only one at the beginning of the year that was not staffed.

 

  • Math Lowest Performing Standard for Grades 3 - 8th:  Alg I, Alg II and Geometry.

Question:

Committee Chair Green:  In the future, instead of the standard tag or acronym, if you would give us a couple of works that summarize the standards or what the focus is.

 

Chief Brooks:  Yes, definitely.   Moving forward, that information will be provided so the committee can look at it and see what concepts the students are struggling with.

CEO Burt:  It will be a summary of the standard.

 

  • Science Lowest Performing Standard for Grades 3rd - 8th. Biology.
  • Strategies to Address TriWeekly/Benchmark/RTI Data :  School Wide for KMCE, KMCM & KMCH
    • Schoolwide deep dive into specific standards will occur during faculty meetings
    • Review of Power Standards within PLCs to ensure we are addressing major work of each grade/content area
    • Across grade levels, Vertical Planning (by content) will occur bi-monthly to ensure support for teachers facilitated by content leads
    • Teachers will receive ongoing support around expectations for rigor in every grade and content
    • Intensive writing plan started October 23rd, 2023
  • KMCH Graduation Rate Over Time:  2021 Grad Rate | 21-22 Grad Rate | 22-23 Grade Rate 
  • Ready Graduate Data
    • Earn a composite score of 21 or higher on the ACT (or 1060 or higher on the SAT);
    • Complete four Early Postsecondary Opportunities (EPSOs)
    • Complete two EPSOs + earn an industry credential
    • Complete two EPSOs + earn a score of 31 on military readiness on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery - Armed Forces Qualifying Test

Question:

Committee Chair Green:  What is the average ACT Score that you are seeing?

CEO Burt:  The average is around 15.3

  • Kick-Up Professional Development Survey Results
  • Professional Learning Survey Results - October 2023
  • Professional Learning Reflections - Successes and Suggestions
