Call the Meeting to Order

J. Worles called a meeting of the Operations/Facilities Committee of KIPP Memphis Public Schools to order on Thursday Apr 16, 2026 at 5:02 PM.

Roll Call

A. Anderson arrived at 5:13 PM.

Agenda Review

The agenda was reviewed and approved with no changes.

D.

Approve Minutes

N. Gatson made a motion to approve the minutes from KIPP Operations/Facilities Committee Meeting on 02-12-26.
B. Gennings seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Operations/Facilities Updates

A.

2025-26 Enrollment Update

Chief Phillips presented an update and overview of the following:

 

As of April 9, 2026, KIPP Memphis Public Schools are at an overall enrollment of 1,009 which is less than the budgeted enrollment of 1,030.

  • Overall YOY Retention is 70% compared to KIPP Foundation's Anchor Metric Goal of 74%
  • Overall enrollment is currently at 80% of target, meeting the KIPP Foundation’s Anchor metric goal of 80%.

B.

2025-26 Attendance/Chronic Absenteeism Update

Chief Phillips presented a YOY update on attendance for all schools as follows:

  • Overall Year-to-date absenteeism is 39%, which is below the KF Anchor Metric goal of 42% or lower.

C.

2026-27 Recruitment/Enrollment Update

Chief Phillips presented an update and overview as follows:

  • Budget enrollment is set at 1,045, with a goal of 1,250 enrolled students, requiring approximately 1,560 registrations to reach that target.
  • As of April 9, 2026, the total enrollment is 945 students, including 851 returning students and 96 new students which is approximately 60.6% to registration goal.

April Recruitment Activities & Events

  • 4/17:  Africa In April Canvassing
  • 4/19:  Mid-South Food Truck Festival Tabling
  • 4/20-4/24:  Mailing Campaign (Targeted Zip Codes)
  • 4/25:   Kroger (Frayser) Tabling 

D.

Facilities Update

Chief Phillips presented an update and overview for all schools as follows:

  • 2025–26 Charter School Facilities Grant projects completed are camera system additions at Henry and interior lighting upgrades at Howell.
  • KIPP Cordova Collegiate Elementary’s property purchase closed on March 25, 2026, with renovation financing expected by May 22, 2026. Renovations are projected from June 2026 through February 2027, ahead of a planned school opening in August 2027.

Committee Chair Worles commented that we are finishing up the year strong and very happy to see the progress that KIPP Memphis Public Schools is making.
