I. Work Study - 4:45 PM

A.

Policy 6022 - Minimum Fund Balance Discussion

President Kristen Michal called the Work Study to order at 4:45 pm

 

 

Superintendent Dr. Deborah Rumbaugh, Mike Sullivan, Executive Director of Finance and Operations, and the members of the School Board discussed Policy 6022, Minimum Fund Balance, which was reduced a few years ago to 5%. The Board discussed the path back to raising it to 8%, possibly starting with 6%, which is the preferred minimum required by OSPI, considering that the district is still under binding conditions. The goal is to gradually increase it by a 1/2 percent each year.  

B.

District Strategic Plan Update

Superintendent Dr. Rumbaugh presented three options to the Board for Strategic Planning and the Timelines. The Board discussed focusing on the Levy first while incorporating elements of the strategic plan, such as surveys and findings. 

 

 

President Kristen Michal adjourned the Work Study at 5:36 p.m.

President Michal requested a motion on the agenda as presented. 

 

Director Hereth moved to approve the agenda as presented. Director Tomas seconded. 

 

The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion. Motion passed.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

President Michal requested a motion on the minutes.

Mark Tomas made a motion to approve the minutes from Board of Directors Regular Session Meeting on 07-20-26.
Craig Hereth seconded the motion.

Connor Krebbs, Director of Facilities and Safety, presented the following slide deck on Capital Projects Updates. He focused on the three (3) Major Projects from 25-26 SY. He discussed the Distressed Schools Grant, the District office/Operations Moves, and other Notable Projects, and answered questions from the Board:

Director Craig Hereth moved to approve the consent agenda as presented. 

Director Mark Tomas seconded. 

 

The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion. Motion passed

V. PUBLIC COMMENT

A.

Public Comment

Codie Wyatt - Marysville SD Employee and SEIU Vice President - Addressed the Board regarding some of the issues that came up in Union Bargaining that was recently held with the Marysville School District. She spoke about their pay relative to minimum wage over the years, the cuts that have been made, and other items. 

VI. TOPICS SCHEDULED FOR BOARD DISCUSSION

A.

Levy Discussion

Board President Michal wanted to start the discussion about renewing the Education Programs and Operations Levy, which expires in February 2027. The Board would like to start early to assess the district's needs and make informed decisions together with the public. All of the Board members provided input and want to receive feedback from the public in upcoming meetings. 

The Board wants to ensure that they are being good stewards of the funds they are entrusted with and using them for the students. The Board encouraged everyone to come to the August 10th Work Study. The Board will discuss it in more detail.

VII. BOARD DIRECTOR REPORTS ON BUSINESS CONDUCTED

The School Board discussed the various Marysville School District and Marysville Community activities they attended and participated in since the last board meeting.

Kristen Michal made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 p.m. 

Director Hereth seconded the motion.
