School Leader
Ms. Williams shared the school will participate in a health and housing fair and "music nights in the park" in Pontiac to engage with the community and distribute flyers. A "pizza and pop" event is planned to welcome students back. She also shared current enrollment is around 95-96 students.
Ms. Williams shared the recent PD week was very successful, with facilitators like Sean Hurt receiving perfect scores (5/5) on staff feedback surveys. Dr. Annie was praised for her role in organizing the PD. Christina Graves, a former school leader from Southern California, also joined to provide onsite support.
Ms. Williams shared the Spring SEL results which showed an 11-point increase in teacher-student relationships. However, there was a 10-point drop in peer-to-peer support, likely due to staggered student schedules. The school plans to host more school-wide functions to address this.
Lastly, Ms. Williams shared the school exceeded its 80% graduation goal. A video from the graduation was shared, featuring student and guest speeches.
C.
Education Service Provider (ESP)
Ms. Chase provided an update on the virtual learning program, which is designed to improve service quality and increase enrollment. The program has a budget of approximately $23,000. She also shared laptops will be loaned to students. A home survey is underway to determine who needs a device. Distribution is planned for late August or early September. The board had a brief discussion and supported the expanded virtual learning program and associated costs.
Mr. Petropulos shared the parent-student handbook has been updated with language regarding school-issued devices, including policies for loss or intentional damage. Board policies and charter contracts are also under review. He also shared a support team (himself, Dr. Annie Gibson, and Avery Giannoulis) will be on the ground in Michigan each week. Training on the "Pulse" software is planned for staff in late August/early September.
Dr. Gibson shared there will be support staff with strategies to keep virtual students engaged and feeling connected. If a virtual student falls behind, they will be required to meet with their teacher to create an improvement plan, which may involve coming on-site.
