Call the Meeting to Order

Susan Briggs called a meeting of the board of directors of Great Oaks Charter School - Bridgeport to order on Wednesday Jun 8, 2016 at 5:02 PM.

Approve Minutes

Ed Farrow arrived.
Dexter Upshaw made a motion to approve minutes from the Board Meeting on 05-11-16 Board Meeting on 05-11-16.
Pamela Fraser-Abder seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Report from the Executive Director

Review May Dashboard

After a question about suspensions, discussion about the impact of events outside of school that impact the learning environment ensued. 

III. Facilities and Finance

A.

Report from the Finance Committee

R. Iandoli shared a brief update on finances. Great Oaks Bridgeport will finish the year with a surplus and in a strong cash position.

Update on the building project and financing

M. Duffy provided an update on progress towards the long-term space. Discussion of financing and timelines ensued. 

C.

Discussion of Memorandum of Understanding between GO BPT and Great Oaks Foundation

M. Duffy shared that the Great Oaks Foundation has been awarded grant funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service to serve as a National Direct AmeriCorps program. In the proposed Memorandum of Understanding between Great Oaks Charter School - Bridgeport and the Great Oaks Foundation, the Foundation would cover costs related to tutors including but not limited to: recruitment and hiring, AmeriCorps stipends, administrative costs related to the Tutor Corps program, and tutor training costs. As a result, the MOU has been reorganized to reflect a base cost per tutor as well as a 7% management fee for management services. Changes will be codified in a management agreement to be presented in August.

FY17 Budget Review and approval

R. Iandoli reviewed an executive summary of a 2016-2017 budget. The budget funds additional personnel costs, a new fee structure for the Great Oaks Foundation, rent for increased instructional space and rent for tutor housing costs. The Finance Committee recommends passing of the FY17 budget. 
Susan Briggs made a motion to provisionally approve the FY17 budget pending ratification of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Great Oaks Foundation and any other changes resulting from negotiations with respect to the long-term space.
Amy Marshall seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.
