Call the Meeting to Order

B. Gutierrez called a meeting to order on Tuesday Jan 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM.

Approve Meeting Minutes

M. Serrano made a motion to approve the minutes from Community Schools Kickoff Steering Committee on 12-19-23.
R. Avilez seconded the motion.
The team VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

B. Gutierrez explained where we are in the process of engagement and how we can decide to cluster results.

Unpack Trends from Engagement Results

The team shared out loud some of the findings thus far from current engagement efforts. School strengths shared were:

  • Parent Engagement, partnership, collaboration, and relationships
  • Before & After School Program, Intersession
  • Literacy focused
  • SEL focus
  • Communication
  • Scholar Experiences
  • Enrichment 
  • Technology access
  • Community Roots
  • Authentic belief in the abilities of our scholars
  • Great staff
  • Safe drop off and pick up

When discussing ideal school vision, some of the key ideas that came up were the following:

  • Accessible in-school tutoring/intervention and nutritious foods
    Private building
  • Offerings: Student leadership opportunities, parent resources, restorative supports for student behavior, PBIS
  • Roles: Nurse, Health Clerks, Social Worker, Counselors, parent community liaison, campus security
  • Programs: Dance, Sports, Stem/STEAM, Exercise classes, Performing arts
  • For parents: nutrition classes, parent resources, tenant programs, exercise, book club, life skills classes

The team discussed the needs and assets assessment and identified ways to reach more partners.

Next Steps

The team left with deliverables to attempt to reach at least one other method of engagement by next week and include findings in the tracker.
