Call the Meeting to Order

T. Martin called a meeting of the board of directors of Rooted School - Washington to order on Wednesday Apr 28, 2021 at 4:03 PM.
T. Martin made a motion to approve the minutes from Rooted School Vancouver Board Meeting (March) on 03-31-21.

New RSV Board Member

T. Martin made a motion to Approve Ms. Taina Knox as new Rooted School Vancouver board member.
S. Carney seconded the motion.
Ms. Taina Knox introduced herself and gave a brief history of her work experience.  
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Mission Moment

  • Mr. Johnson provided this meeting's mission moment with a report on a grade 12 student (V.C.) who was accepted as one of the first Green Balloon Fellows from Rooted School New Orleans. 
  • The student will be earning a substantial living wage upon graduation from Rooted School in June 2021.

II. CEO/SCHOOL LEADER UPDATE

A.

UPDATES:

  1. There was an update on two fundraising consultants:
  • Ruth Richerson - Ruth Richerson Consulting
  • Brandon Vaughan - Independent Consultant
  2.  There was no update on the Rooted School Foundation.

III. STRATEGIC DISCUSSION ITEMS:

A.

DISCUSSION ITEMS:

  1. There will be ongoing conversations with key board members and tribal leaders to try and recruit some local indigenous students from regional tribal areas.
  2. There are currently two facilities that are under consideration.  More discussions will need to be had with leasing agents as well as the WA Charter Commission to get additional insight, support and final approval for the 2022 school year.
  3. Dates will be established for formal OPMA training for all board members.
  4. Brandon Vaughn (communication consultant) will be supporting in the area of communication and P.R.
  5. Nathan Webster will be leading the board's efforts for capital fundraising.  He will be developing strategies and support mechanisms to move these efforts forward in the upcoming year.

  • There was a motion to move into executive session to discuss matters of personnel related to the hiring of the RSV School Leader made by Board Chairman, Toby Martin.
  • The board moved into executive session at 4:32 PM.
