  • Academic Excellence Committee's role in monitoring student growth, setting academic
    goals, and improving communication with families about student progress.
  • Identify clear academic targets, transparent reporting, and alignment with the
    school's mission of preparing students for both college and career pathways.

II. Academic Excellence

A.

Data Review and Discussion

 

Reviewed the committee’s role in monitoring student growth and setting clear academic targets aligned to Rooted’s mission (college and career preparation).

 

Discussed the need for transparent data reporting and consistent communication with families about student progress.

 

Committee emphasized focus areas:

 

  • Data analysis and program evaluation
  • Effective academic interventions and continuous improvement
  • Transparency in sharing outcomes with the community
  • Identified gaps in student sense of community and awareness of career pathway opportunities (internships, etc.).
  • Agreed that MAP and SBAC data will anchor ongoing committee discussions.

School Specific Goals

 

  • Academic Growth Targets: School leaders will set measurable goals (e.g., % of students at/above 50th percentile on MAP) and present them to the board for approval.
  • Family Communication: Develop a plan for at least two family progress updates per year, aligned with MAP testing cycles.
  • Student Engagement: Relaunch student government and clarify advisor roles to improve student voice in academic and cultural initiatives.
  • Community Strengthening: Explore traditions and celebrations that promote a culture of academic excellence and belonging.

24-25 Annual Performance Summary

 

Key initiatives underway:

 

  • MAP assessment presentation for families during fall conferences (to be recorded for asynchronous access).
  • Distribution of individual MAP and SBAC reports through ParentSquare, mirroring local school best practices

Simplicity Dashboard

  • Confirm parent access options for MAP data with NWEA.
  • Integrate academic indicators (MAP, SBAC, attendance, course grades) into a simple, recurring reporting dashboard for both families and the board.
  • Use dashboard data to guide committee discussions and track progress toward annual goals.

 

III. Other Business

A.

Purpose of the Academic Excellence Committee

  • Development of a committee charter defining oversight responsibilities and reporting cadence.
  • Committee meetings will occur monthly (Mondays at 3:00 PM), with agenda-planning sessions the week prior.
  • Focus for 2024–25: increased clarity, alignment, and accountability in academic goal setting and communication.
