V. Individual Actions Items
  A. Approve Board Policy 3115 ~ Student Experiencing Homelessness Enrollment Rights and Services; Second Reading Vote

No changes from the first reading.

This policy was significantly cleaned up by removing language that is redundant and already in the procedure. WSSDA also revised the procedure to align with provisions in SHB 2594 ensuring that unhoused children and youths in Washington have equal access to free, appropriate public education.

  B. Approve Board Policy 3122 ~ Excused and Unexcused Absences; Second Reading Vote

No changes from the first reading.

Changes to this policy and its procedure made them more clear and more consistent with each other and removed unnecessary duplication. While language from the procedure was removed from the policy to avoid redundancy. This policy has been restructured to differentiate between in-person requirements and on-line requirements.

  C. Approve Board Policy 3141 ~ Nonresident Students; Second Reading Vote

No changes from the first reading.

Modifications to this policy have been made in collaboration with legal council. They reviewed the language we had and helped us revise it to align with what is required by RCW 28A.225 Non-Resident Students.

  D. Approve Board Resolution 26-27.02 - Proposition No. 1 - EP&O Levy Vote

Chevy Astro Van ~ Trevor Meade @ $502.62

No bid for bus #19.

  H. Approve Surplus of Two Kilns from Medical Lake High School Vote

Last use approximately 2011/2012 when Mr. Cicero was here, teaching art and ceramics.

  I. Approval for 8th Grade Girls to Play High School JV Basketball Vote

Girls' Basketball requesting 8th grade players for the 26-27 season, JV games only.

The WIAA states that if at any point in the season basketball numbers land at or below sixteen, a school may request the inclusion of 8th grade players.  With district approval, the school may then request league approval.

Currently thirteen 9th-12th graders have signed up. (3 senior, 4 sophomore, 6 freshman)

In the 25-26 season, six 8th grade girls played up.  Of those six, two transferred to different high schools and one has chosen MLHS cheer.  The other three have signed up for MLHS basketball this year.

VI. Student Representative Reports ~ Emma Michaud and Lilly Kelm
VII. Board Reports and Discussions ~ None at this time
VIII. Reports and Discussions
  A. Fall Sports Report ~ Coach Holloway

Fall Sports Update as of 10/23

Cross Country:  (20 boys, 10 girls) Girls finished 3-0, League Champions, boys finished 2-1.  District event to be held on 10/24.  Both boys and girls teams are hoping to advance to the D5/D6 State Qualifier on 10/30.  Up to two NEA teams and/or 14 individual NEA runners can advance to State.

Girls' Soccer:  (16 players) Currently 1-4 in league, 5-10 overall.  Heading into District playoffs 10/31.  Top two teams advance to the D5/D6 Crossover 11/7 at Royal High School.

Volleyball: (36 players)  Currently 3-2 in league, 11-5 overall with new Head Coach Rey Ornelas.  Outcome of 10/27 game will determine their game time at District playoffs 10/31 at Lakeside HS.  Top two teams advance to D5/D6 Crossover on 11/7.

Football: (39 players)  Currently 1-2 in league, 2-4 overall.  I believe that the 10/9 Homecoming win over Colville was the first league win since 2018!  We've moved up the RPI rankings almost 10 spots with the last two wins.  A win at Riverside on 10/23 will place us in a tie for the league title which will be played off on 10/31 to determine seeding in the State Round of 24 for Week 10.  If we are involved in a league tie, our Senior Night game will be moved to 10/29.  If we are not involved in the tie, we will be working to find a Week 10 game.  JV players had three games at the beginning of the season, but the number of eligible players for either ML or our opponents have kept us from playing the most recent weeks.
