Call the Meeting to Order

A. Norman called a meeting of the board of directors of Believe Memphis Academy to order on Thursday Dec 4, 2025 at 4:50 PM.

Approve Minutes

F. Jones made a motion to approve the minutes from BMA Board Meeting on 10-07-25.
E. Eber seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

A.

Academic Report

Matt presented the Academic & Culture Committee Report.

 

Priority Status

  • Believe is currently on the state priority list.
  • The published article about priority schools was generally favorable.
  • Alicia recommended sending a hard-copy notice to families.
  • Florence emphasized maintaining trust and integrity with families.
  • Mike agreed that a letter should be sent.

Academic Improvement Plan

  • Team is developing a plan for additional academic supports and funding.
  • Exit Criteria from Priority Status:
    • Meet AMO goals in all subjects.
    • Reduce chronic absenteeism by 6% this year.
    • Earn a TVAAS score of 4 or 5.

AMO Goals Review

  • Reviewed predicted proficiency projections for ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Alicia raised an additional student outcome for consideration.
  • Matt noted ongoing tracking through MasteryConnect, Savvas, and CommonLit.
  • Discussed the 4th grade Math outlier data; Matt expressed confidence in the teacher’s ability to meet goals.

Academic Supports

  • Current and upcoming partners/supports:
    • More for Memphis
    • Literacy Mid-South
    • Middle School Intervention Aide (hired)
    • Learning Acceleration Pilot
    • Communities In Schools
  • Florence and Alicia emphasized urgency in pushing academic support efforts.
  • Community Council held its first meeting this week.
  • Exploring potential additional tutoring options.

Financial Report

Kenny provided the financial update.

 

Key Points

  • Cash on hand has increased.
  • Additional Title I and Facility Grant funding has been received.
  • Funds are being strategically directed toward academic priorities.
