Facility Renovations
The initial walkthrough revealed the need for repairs after the furniture was removed. Issues included:
Renovation costs may exceed allowable amounts from the grant. FRC was contacted about rent credits for repairs.
Facility Technology & Safety
SVA received three quotes for these modifications. Pinkleton Sunday Corporation provided the best quote at $40,000 (compared to $96,000 and $70,000 from the other quotes). Pinkleton Sunday Corporation is a trusted partner through Technology Lab. Internet service will be installed by E-Rate.
Facility Improvements
SVA received a fencing quote from Foster Fencing for $7,500. The only necessary furniture purchases would include student and teacher desks, which total around $93,000.
Personnel Updates
Nandi hired the Academic Coach, and all teacher offers have been extended and accepted.
Pre-Opening Checklist
The UEI number is still delayed. Once SVA provides proof of a physical address (as opposed to a P.O. Box number), the UEI Number should be issued.
Enrollment
Currently, 87 students are enrolled out of 117. Enrollment numbers are picking up now that school has ended.
Summer Programs
Summer camp was cancelled. Instead, SVA will run a girls-only computer science camp in partnership with HYPE. The students will create websites and learn to code with women in tech. And, the program will be offered free of charge.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
The official school opening is scheduled for August 2nd, the Saturday before the start of the school year.
