Finance Update

CSMC presented on the First Interim Budget. Less revenue than expenditures is normal at the beginning of the school year, but we are expecting to have a surplus of $183k by the end of the year. MP may be eligible for facilities and nonpublic school services reimbursements which is producing a projected surplus. Our projected revenue is $11.2M and expenses total $11M. About 7.5M will go to staffing and 2.5M in operating costs for the 2026-27 school year. Books and supplies, and capital outlays make up the remainder.

IV. Director Updates

A.

Director & Student Government Update

MP is requesting a 7-year charter renewal because MP meets the criteria for High Performing Charter. Data submitted for 2025-2026 includes the number of students (494), enrollment growth of 12.5%, 83% Latine student body, 30+% English Language Learners, 20.8+ point increase in English Language Arts, and +20.6+ point increase in math. We are closing the gap from pandemic learning loss. MP is focusing on bringing a STEAM model and incorporating Amplify Science for project-based learning, Lexia to support students with disabilities, and back-to-the-basics reading logs for literacy. A proposed school schedule was sent out to the community (reduce from 190 days to 187, 8:10am start time, 3:10pm dismissal MWThF and continued 1:30pm release for Wednesdays). This would enable more after-school offerings through the ACES grant.

MP partners with Educators Thriving to focus on staff well-being. Many experience depletion, despite high job satisfaction and professional growth. About 20 staff members are graduate students in addition to being teachers. The hope is that the new proposed schedule will ameliorate depletion and enable staff to have more breathing room in their schedules.
