Call the Meeting to Order

J. Wright called a meeting of the Stakeholder Feedback Task Force Committee of Athlos Jefferson Parish to order on Thursday Mar 28, 2024 at 1:17 PM.

II. Stakeholder Feedback Task Force

A.

Staff Presentation: Current Discipline Policies

Kathleen Wheeler presented components of AAJPs Discipline Policy. 

 

Each LEA should establish its own discipline policy that aligns with LDOE's guidelines with a maximum of 10 days of suspension. 

 

-Minor/ Major Infractions 

-Educator's Handbook is AAJP's Discipline Recording Platform

-ISS process for 2023-2024 school year

-Saturday School Implementation 

 

Dr. Holmes suggested each step of the discipline policy be written out to assist all members of Administration determine the correct action. 

 

The Committee discussed the need for an Alternative School to create a LDOE compliant expulsion policy for AAJP.

The committee discussed reorganizing the in-school suspension process for the 2024-2025. 

 

-Designated Classroom for In-School Suspension 

-Facilitated by a Classroom Teacher 

-Lunch Period with the In-Suspension staff 

-Separate Lower/ Upper School  In-School Suspension locations 

 

B.

Staff Presentation: Current Bullying Policies

Kathleen Wheeler presented the current bullying policy procedures: 

 

1. Bullying incident reported by student, parent or staff 

2. Parents are contacted if they are not aware, 

3. Start investigation by getting statements of all students involved or witnesses. 

4. Determine if the event is a recurring event or an isolated event. 

5, Parents are contacted with the investigation results and next steps. 

C.

Staff Presentation: SEL Assessment Process

Zuzana Bracok discussed how the MTSS process is initiated. 

 

1. Student is referred to MTSS by the Assistant Principal.  

2. Student data is pulled from Educator's Handbook. 

3. MTSS Coordinator meets with the student's teacher and does classroom observations 

4. Student plan is created

 

The committee discussed proactively assessing every student at the beginning of each school year. (C.I. 3 Screener) 

 

The Social Emotional assessment will identify internal and external behaviors earlier in the school year, which will provide additional lead time to creating a plan for the student.

Staff Presentation: Current PBIS Training and Expectations

The committee discussed the idea of PBIS team collaborating with the MTSS process. 

 

The collaboration will promote a tiered reward system to promote safety and discipline throughout the AAJP campus. 

 

There will be an official document created explaining all aspects of the PBIS tiered reward system.

Discussion: Policy Updates

The discussion of creating a LDOE compliant expulsion policy for AAJP will be presented to the Governance Committee for further action.

The next Stakeholder Committee meeting is scheduled for April 17, 2024 at 4:00 pm.
