II. 2021 Virtual Gala Planning

2021 Virtual Gala Planning

Jordan Pina, Chief of Staff, provided an update on development results to date. She shared that the bulk of the City on a Hill Foundation's donations continues to be those of individual donors, but noted that commitments for the City on a Hill Gala have begun and are the second largest source.

Pina then directed the attention of the Committee to City on a Hill Gala planning. She confirmed that the Gala will be virtually held on Thursday, May 6th at 6:00PM, and operate with the theme of "Past, Present and Future of City on a Hill." Pina also shared that the event is planned to start with breakout group "mixers" with students, staff and Board members, followed by videos of pre-recorded remarks by speakers, including City on a Hill's founder, a founding teacher, alumni, current staff, and students. The night will conclude with a raffle of multiple baskets comprised of gift cards to local businesses and subscriptions to virtual experiences.

The Committee thanked Pina for the Development Team's work, and began discussion around pricing for tickets. Members discussed the pros and cons of a ticket virtual event, considering accessibility and building investment to ensure maximum attendance. The Committee decided to move forward with a suggested donation during registration, with the hope that attendees would participate in the raffle during the event.

Next, the Committee reviewed confirmed speakers and noted that brining additional alumni, particularly those who graduated closer to City on a Hill's founding, former Board of Trustee members, and current student voices would add to the quality of the pre-recorded remarks. Pina agreed to connect with City on a Hill staff who may have connections with older alumni to reach out. Then, the Committee discussed historical corporate sponsorships, and the potential to secure 1-2 sponsors for this year's Gala.

Finally, the Committee resolved to meet again before the Gala to continue to monitor progress.
