Heavier work will be taking place on Campus after May 31st.  June 1st, power will be out at the campus for ComEd's work at the existing tranformer.

  C. Back Patio Issue Discuss Dan Alexander 15 m

The Back Patio is a stone structure at the west side of the Admin Building, outside of the Library overlooking the Fen.

In the course of construction, it was discovered that the Patio floor slab had deteriorated, and allowed water to enter the cavity under the Patio.  The structural beams and columns, as well as the slab, have deteriorated.

To address this, the following choices present themselves:

  1. Option 1 – mothball
  2. Option 2 – repair and restore existing, add ¾” round painted steel railing on top of the existing terrace retaining wall +/- 6” above the top of the wall to deter anyone from sitting on the wall
  3. Option 3 – existing retaining wall to remain, demo existing slab. Rebuild new wood deck with tiered levels to create code-compliant 42” retaining wall.  New wood steps and new handrails at both sides of steps.  See attached sketch.  Bulley to provide engineering as design-build contract for stabilizing existing retaining walls as necessary and for the wood deck design.

  D. Campus Planning--Update on Parking Focus Discuss Dan Alexander 5 m

The Committee had asked Admin to research the cost of the 11 new parking spaces.

Two existing walnut tree and one other, non-oak tree would need to be removed to create the 11 parking spaces previously shown (see attached diagram).
