Discuss Academic Updates
Rich Harrison, CEO, gave an overview of the academics for the latest testing scores from ICAs. Rich and Kathleen Liljeberg, Director of Assessment and Performance Management, overviewed the latest assessment data, discussing strengths, growth areas, and general trends.
The board asked, what are some of the reasons we're seeing growth at the high school math levels?
Erin Verma, Director of Secondary Academics, says there is a combination of factors such as a change of high school math curriculum, strong teacher retention for multiple years, and teachers internalizing both their grades and previous grades to have a deeper understanding of instructional needs. Rich added that students are taking more assessments more seriously.
Rodolfo, board member, asks what the takeaway from ICAs was from leadership.
Dr. B commented she is focused on areas that still need support, thinking deeply about what development for those teachers look like. She also commented about how interventions had a slow start but wants to address the challenge to ensure interventions are running smoothly. She also wants to know whats working well that may come from supplemental programs. Dr. B commented on the math team leading PLCs each week and sharing math practices. She is excited about growth and motivating teachers but staying committed through the rest of the year.
The committee then looked at the predictability and grade level performance of ICAs, commenting that growth overall seems positive.
There were no further questions from the board.
