Page 5: We understand that some students may face a higher risk, and are more susceptible for being a target of bullying, harassment, or teasing due to real or perceived attributes such as race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, socioeconomic background, housing status, legal status, pregnancy, parenting status, sexual orientation, LGBTQIA, academic standing, gender identity or expression, physical traits, sensory differences, disabilities, or associations with individuals possessing these characteristics. Our school is committed to identifying proactive measures to cultivate a safe and welcoming environment for all students, especially those in vulnerable groups. We aim to equip every student with the knowledge, tools, and confidence necessary to recognize, prevent, and address incidents of bullying and harassment.

The following notice of non-discrimination will replace the current version.  A paragraph and some bullet points outlining alternatives to discipline will also be added.  

 

Updated Non-Discrimination Notice: 

  • Argosy Collegiate Charter does not exclude from participation, deny the benefits or opportunities, or otherwise discriminate against individuals on the basis of race (including traits historically associated with race, such as hair texture, hair type, hair length and protective hairstyles), color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic  information, active military/veteran status, marital status, familial status, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, homelessness, ancestry, ethnic background, national origin, or any other category protected by state or federal law, in the administration of its admission, educational, and employment policies, or in its programs and activities.

Alternative to Discipline:

  • The Restorative Justice program offers alternatives to discipline through education and rebuilding positive connections to the school community. Activities may or may not include:
    • community service to the school before or after regular school hours
    • an individualized Scholar Success Plan
    • completion of an educational task/reflection 
    • lunch group
    • writing and delivering an apology to the school community
    • a behavior contract between the scholar and school
 
  C. Vote to Approive Revised Employee Handbook Vote
   

For compliance, the following statement will be added to the second paragraph of section 6.4.  

 

  • This includes the requirement of all members of the school community to report any concerns with potential bullying to ensure that an investigation can be conducted to determine if it is bullying. In the process of a bullying investigation, staff members could be determined to be the perpetrator.
