Call the Meeting to Order
O. Celepcikay called a meeting of the Governance Committee Committee of Harmony Public Schools to order on Tuesday Feb 20, 2024 at 5:03 PM.

II. New Board Member Nomination.

New Board Member Nomination.
O. Celepcikay made a motion to nominate Dr. Koch to recommend to our full board as a new board member.
H. Koc seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

H. Koc made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
O. Celepcikay seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 5:15 PM.

Dr. Celepcikay reminds the committee that Dr. Kanlioglu is resigning from the HPS Board of Directors and the committee has been in search for a new board member. At the previous governance committee meeting a possible candidate was mentioned and the committee agreed to meet with the new candidate. The committee met with Dr. Simon Koch "Dr. K" at Central Office and then had more discussions with him over a late lunch.
Mrs. Sherwood states she was very impressed with Dr. K and that he was sincere and she feels very positive about the interview with him and for Dr. K to be part of the HPS Board.
Mr. Ay agrees with Helen and states he would be a good fit for the HPS Board and has been part of the charter movement for many years and has served on other charter boards as well. Mr. Ay also feels with him serving as professor at Rice is a plus as there are possible grant opportunities and he may help us find the right connections.
Dr. Celepcikay liked Dr. K's vision of what it is to be an HPS Board member and this comes with his experience as a previous board member for a charter school and would be a good fit for the HPS Board. Dr. Celepcikay believes Dr. K's heart is in the right place as serving the kids and being part of the HPS Board team.
Dr. Koc likes that Dr. K was sincere and had charter experience as well as his academic background with Rice University. He is very comfortable nominating him as an HPS Board member.
