Call the Meeting to Order

C. Clark called a meeting of the board of directors of Liberation Academy to order on Tuesday Nov 14, 2023 at 6:02 PM.

Approve Minutes

C. Clark made a motion to approve the minutes from Board Meeting on 10-10-23.
R. Oglesby seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Governance

A.

Board Trainings Through SCSC

  • SCSC Governance Training - April 17, 2024 in Atlanta - In Person
    • Attendance is mandatory. 
    • If the date doesn't work, you can attend in Athens on February 6, 2024.
    • Please register
  • SCSC Virtual Training - Due April 30, 2024
    • Part two will consist of numerous asynchronous virtual sessions that board members can choose from in order to complete their remaining 6 governance training hours. Board members will receive a link to these trainings directly from SCSC staff after the first in-person session and will have until April 30, 2024 to access and complete their asynchronous sessions. After that date, board members will not be able to access the sessions and will need to seek alternative training for any unfulfilled training hours.

Academic and School Culture Reports

New hire

  • Corey Pulliam, Special Education Paraprofessional 
  • Replacing a staff member who was terminated

 

Discipline report: September

 

  • Top infractions
    • Fights/physical infractions - 3
      • Three separate incidents
  • Interventions
    • Restorative Circles
    • Heightened monitoring in the halls and cafeteria
    • First of monthly town hall meetings doing a culture reset and celebrating great behavior and growth
  • Focus for October
    • Rigor
    • Problem-based learning
    • Culture
  • Enrollment now open for the 24-25 school year (5th - 7th)
    • Have 27 applications right now
      • Current families don't have to apply, but need to submit an intent to enroll 
    • Applications close in late March and we'll run a lottery if needed shortly afterward
    • School will share full enrollment plan with the board by the end of the year
    • We've secured a bus for next year
      • Need to prioritize bus route 
    • Started doing tours
    • Will begin info sessions at the end of November
    • Revisiting social media and website
    • Having professional photos taken of the scholars this week

IV. Facility

A.

Facility Update

  • Projected to grow out of the building after next school year (24-25)
    • Working with Facility Resource Center to find a new facility
    • Goal is to move no more than 5 - 7 miles from the current school

R. Oglesby made a motion to approve as a consent agenda all policies listed up for vote on the agenda.
C. Clark seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Board chair announced she will be stepping down in February.
