II. SY26 School Performance Update 11:09 AM
  A. From Systems, Structures, and Strategies to Ecosystem: Boston Prep's Literacy Focus and Its Impact FYI Robert Rametti 30 m

Headlines:

  • We are building a literacy ecosystem, not one-off strategies.
  • As a community, we are gaining momentum in terms of shifting culture, improving reading instruction, and growing students as writers
  • Data demonstrate progress, particularly in middle school GPA improvement and retention numbers, and high school IA growth from Q1 to Q2
  • Too many high school students are currently projected for retention if they do not make academic improvements between now and June; we are launching a Saturday Study Hall initiative to support students to close the gap, focused primarily on grades 9, 11, 12

Meeting Goals:

  • Center the voices of the BP Community (students, teachers, leaders) to bring to life the impact of the "Literacy Ecosystem" we've been creating
  • Highlight data wins that point to growing momentum
  • Focus on strategic questions, our current hypotheses, and proposed bets in response to the challenges the data suggest

Preview of Questions:

  • Why are our ninth-grade students struggling at higher rates than other grade levels?
  • How do we accelerate student growth to close learning gaps, particularly for students who are significantly below grade level?
  • How do we capitalize on the momentum we've gained this year around explicit literacy instruction and building a culture of reading?

  B. Data Deep Dive Discuss Robert Rametti 15 m

Purpose:

  • Inform the committee about exciting wins that demonstrate progress and a few challenges that frame our planning for SY27
  • Clarify questions from committee members

  C. Challenges, Hypotheses, and Strategic Bets for SY27 Discuss Robert Rametti 20 m

Purpose:

  • We pose three strategic questions with our current hypotheses and proposed bets. We ask the Board to validate, question, and/or challenge the hypotheses and bets, and to leave us with recommendations or additional questions to consider as we enter the crux of our academic planning phase for SY27

Questions for Consideration:

  • Why are our ninth-grade students struggling at higher rates than other grade levels?
  • How do we accelerate student growth to close learning gaps, particularly for students who are significantly below grade level?
  • How do we capitalize on the momentum we've gained this year around explicit literacy instruction and building a culture of reading?
