II. Academic Excellence

A.

Academic goals

1. Keep the first 2 current goals for State testing regarding comparative scores with ESC and San Antonio District 5, amend the 3rd to increase STAAR score of meets or higher  for math and reading to 75%.

2. For Diagnostic tests, determine the goals based on yet-to-be-tested beginning of year scores, and review growth and achievement. Ms. Lauren will present these goals.

B.

Attendance: school just begun. Tardiness will not be counted this week. New procedure implemented (closing gate to drop-off) that will enhance collection of tardiness data.

C.

Enrollment: 158 (goal was 195). Clarification needs to be made as to whether this will be acceptable for increased federal funding.

III. Other Business

A.

Afterschool care

1. This continues this year for a fee and is available until 6pm.

2. Regulations do not require SpEd care to be provided during this time. Leniency has been given last year, but the cost of providing this care requires that a higher fee be charged.

B.

Staffing

1. Teaching assignments have been made, which include moving teachers up a grade to provide consistency for children and ease of transition.

2. Two teachers have left, one to moving and one to displeasure with new assignment.

3. Several teacher aides who have demonstrated excellent skills are getting degrees to return as teachers.

4. New science teacher, experienced, will begin the gardening project described in charter.

5. Professional development has included classroom management, providing valuable guidance for newer teachers and unpacking curriculum.

C.

Superintendent comments

The opening days of school have been the smoothest yet.

Behavior is more controlled.

Teachers have stated that they are feeling more confident, especially after the training this year.
