Call the Meeting to Order

A. Weimar called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Shining Rock Classical Academy to order on Thursday Feb 13, 2025 at 3:52 PM.

Approve Minutes

T. Inman made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Excellence Committee Meeting on 01-09-25.
L. Long seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence

A.

Virtual Day packets

Discussed implementation, best practices, and outcomes of virtual day packets.

-varying success per grade 

-parents/students various levels of understanding it is a school day 

- high schoolers - were given a 5 pm deadline 

 

Action Items:

 

Policy

  • We need to review the remote attendance policy. 
  • The best practice would be to share both written packets and virtual packets (post on Google Classroom or ParentSquare. 
  • Education for the parents on required virtual days by the state of NC
  • Will continue to monitor 

B.

Update on test scores across grades

The board would like an update regarding test scores across grades. 

 

High School

New data - 24-25 67% Eng II

 

33% EC population as a school - over 40% have never passed an EOG test 

 

Action items 

We need to focus on academic growth. 

 

Need to focus on AIG/Project Lead the Way 

 

MAP testing - using now to help predict Math and Reading Proficiency. Links to IXL - used for remediation and classwork. 

 

M-Class - reaching achievement for k-3 

shows growth between BOY and MOY. 

Overall good MOY growth. 

-looking at composite scores to haun in on student's specific learning learning needs

 

PLC Meeting days- data-driven conversations per grade level to address gaps.

Review teacher recruitment and retention. 

 

Josh highlighted the partnership with Western for teacher placements and internships. 

 

We have a high level of inexperienced teachers. This has positives and negatives. 

 

Board

Can support fair wages 

Consider paying mentor 

Build culture into the budget 

Review survey of teacher licensures 

Can we support certifications
