Call the Meeting to Order

A. Allen-Thames called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Sankofa Montessori to order on Wednesday Feb 14, 2024 at 2:10 PM.

Approve Minutes

E. Moore made a motion to Approve the minutes from January January Academic Committee Meeting on 01-10-24.
A. Allen-Thames seconded the motion.

Approval of minutes in lieu of amending January minutes to change of "9 applications completing"

The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence

A.

Leadership Team’s Corner

1.  Enrollment Status- 14 approved applications for 2024, enrollment will stop March 7; 16 processing and 3 newly submitted.  Required to have 88 students reported. 

  • Total of 141- 31 approved apps/13 apps in process/92 not submitted, but started apps/5 newly submitted apps
  • Recruitment- 327 leads from marketing campaign; Staff finished visiting 60 daycares; Staff in process of calling/emailing to finish 92 apps pending.  Data capture inconclusive for how people find out about the school.  
  • To fill in gaps for student population need the following:  84 K grade,  56 1st grade, 8 2nd grade, and 18 3rd grade

2.  Personnel Updates-  School has released two teachers

 

3.  Updates on school suspensions/expulsions:

  • K grade- 2 out of school susp/no in school susp
  • 1st grade- 10 out of school susp (3 students received suspension twice each)/3 in school susp
  • 2nd grade- no out of school susp/ no in school susp

4.  Results of January MAP testing (Reading/Math per grade) and comparisons to fall MAP testing-  Noted decrease in scores from January to fall in both reading and math; Staff currently analyzing data more closely to understand student trends

 

5.  Miscellaneous items to discuss (Montessori teacher training)- Discussed possible changes for teacher agreement terms to ear MACDE training (Montessori cert training).

Discussion of Special Education

  • Discuss student enrollment #% of student population with suspected and/or identified special needs- None, except parents resourced to tour Clayton county school district for ABA therapy and other resources where applicable. 
  • Updates on staffing with Special Needs- Hired a SPED Para 
  • Updates on classroom integration of special needs and updates on external supports for special needs  (i.e., Speech, ABA, OT/PT)- None
  • Updates on psycho-educational testing for students plans/progress- None
