Academic Accountability Committee’s purpose, goals, roles and responsibilities

Purpose/Goals/Roles/Responsibilities
  1. Define academic excellence (foundational responsibility)
    1. CEO vision of what we are trying to achieve academically
    2. What are the promises we made to the community
    3. Short description for the definition
      1. Develop a K-8 structure that enables our scholars to be successful in top tier high schools, colleges and universities
      2. Academic excellence each year means that our scholars have built the skills they need to get to this goal. We define skills for each grade level in academics, behavior, SEL
  2. Take the definition of academic excellence draft and review with school directors (Malka)
  3. AA Committee will then develop goals that help track progress to this definition: annual academic achievement goals
  • State proficiency goals: Move from 47% - 56% ELA/Math Grades 3-8
  • Stretch goals - how do we move to 80% of 3s and 4s across all grade levels
  • Then we can push to all 4s on SBAC
  • Articulation of how we assess SEL - maybe a self-assessment of SEL of scholars
  • 100% are re-designated entering 5th grade (of those who began with Equitas)
  • Teacher retention - 80% of effective teachers are retained on average
Scope of Committee/Calendar
  • We can look at Jan, June, August - testing data, teacher retention, reclassification to do board presentation
  • Committee will share out this information with the Board
  • Publish a board calendar will have topics that will be included and we will know what we are doing each quarter
Next Steps
  • Malka will bring back vision to school directors
  • Sarah will submit the updated calendar and topics to Oliver
  • Board will adopt the cycle of meetings in June for 2018-19
  • Once definition of academic excellence is determined, committee can approve that and the goals then we present to the full Board in June
