Texas Center for Arts + Academics is the charter holder of Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts (FWAFA) and Texas School of the Arts (TeSA).

Melissa Goodroe called a meeting of the board of directors of Texas Center for Arts + Academics to order on Tuesday Nov 19, 2019 at 6:04 PM.

Michael Wellbaum made a motion to approve minutes from the TCAA Board Meeting on 09-24-19 TCAA Board Meeting on 09-24-19.
Charles Reid seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Michael Wellbaum made a motion to approve September and October 2019 financial statements.
Charles Reid seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Approve Employee Misconduct Policy

Michael Wellbaum made a motion to approve Employee Misconduct Policy.

VI. Parent Club Updates

A.

TeSA PTO

  • Trunk or Treat was a success. On the calendar for next year.
  • TeSA WAT raised over 25K 
  • 2nd fundraiser of the year was 11-13-19 Free Dress for $5 raised almost $900
  • 3rd Annual TeSA Gives Back November 8-22 for Kids Kits to be donated to Tarrant Area Food Bank. Goal is to surpass 5,000 individual items to help feed children during the holiday break.
  • Square 1 Art orders to be in by the 19th to qualify for free shipping
  • 12-5-19 prior to the Art Show, there will be a General PTO Meeting @6:00 pm
  • 12-9 thru 12-19 TeSA Tree will collect donations for ACH Child and Family Services as well as Art pieces to be delivered with Meals on Wheels
  • How can TeSA help promote TCAA for upcoming Auditions and Enrollment?

VII. Financials

A.

First Financial Management Reports

  • Finance Director, Janelle Grau presented FWAFA and TeSA 2017-2018 FIRST Financial Management Reports 
  • Both Schools received an A Superior rating

Investment Officer

Daniel Bates made a motion to approve the appointment of Finance Director, Janelle Grau as TCAA Investment Officer.
Mary A. Zimmerman seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

VIII. Leadership and Administration

November Open House Update

  • New structure/format of Open House was a hit with parents
  • TeSA
    • 20 Kindergarten - 3rd grade families in attendance at November Open House
    • Next Open House scheduled is January 9, 2020 
    • Open Enrollment is January 8, 2020 - February 10, 2020
  • FWAFA
    • 35 3rd - 12th grade families in attendance at November Open House
    • Next Open House scheduled is January 14, 2020
    • Open Enrollment is January 8, 2020 - February 10, 2020

Audition Workshop Update

  • 2nd Annual Audition Workshops were a success. We had more students in attendance than last year.
  • TeSA
    • 26 Students attended
    • Of the 26 students, 20 were going into Kindergarten where we have our largest openings at TeSA
  • FWAFA
    • 50 Students attended
    • Of the 50 students, 18 were going into 3rd grade where we have our largest openings at FWAFA; 9 of them were going into 9th grade which is currently where we have a large number of openings.

Updates

  • TBC's holiday performance
    • December 17th at Broadway Baptist Church
    • VIP reception will be held before the performance
  • Region 11 Fiber Optics
    • Should be implemented by the end of the 3rd quarter or beginning of the 4th quarter
    • This will be huge for connectivity at both campuses

IX. Resource Development

Resource Development

  • Currently the Annual Fund has brought in $53,800.00
  • Development and Communications Department
    • October Retreat to map out the rest of the year
    • Focusing on Stewardship with all stakeholders 

X. Team Impact: Conservatories and Community

Conservatories and Community

  • Conservatories
    • Working to increase enrollment in Dance, Art, and Community Boys Choir programs
  • Advisory Council
    • At our November Committee meeting we did a recap of our Fall Advisory Council meeting held in October where we reviewed expectations with the members.
      • Members were asked to truly serve as Ambassadors which includes:
        • Assist getting TCAA on agenda at local organization and club meetings
        • Help connect us to funding and grants
        • Invite families to our Open House(s)
        • Share with everyone about our Open Enrollment period in January 2020
        • Bring and/or invite guests to School Performances
      • Our Committee is reaching out to ask the full Board to help recruit future Advisory Council members. Please expect a Committee member to connect with you at the beginning of December for a list of names.
      • Penny will send out a Save the Date for the Spring 2020 meeting date to be held April 15th
