Brainstorming academic priorities for next 5 year Strategic Plan
3-5 strategic priorities as an Academic Committee for next 5-year strategic plan:
Connection between the goals around
Closing racial achievement gaps
Differentiation
Rigor
Professional development for teachers around scaffolding, differentiation, sheltered instruction
(building on current success of professional development grants, that teachers can apply for) - differentiated PD for teachers by self-selecting in, specific needs or areas per teacher (vs one training for the entire staff)
& knowledge transfer / coaching in-house on team meetings, etc, to share what was learned in specific PD;
targeting larger PD (conferences) to specific levels, teachers, students in advance & following
What do we want to do / What do we want to continue to do, and maintain?
How do we communicate to parents the rigor that's happening in the classroom (and how is this being measured);
How do we share the PD that is happening & how it's special to GLOBE;
how are measuring the efficacy of both
Correlation to getting parents involved & in person on both campuses (see November 9 meeting minutes) - parents are more likely to see what's happening in school. Helps to see pictures from the classroom (K teachers do this so well). Sending work home helps as well.
Increase classroom communication from teachers to parents: seeing student work vs. usually only hearing about what the class is doing as a whole
GLOBE gets feedback on communicating too little, AND communicating too much:
How to publicize / share the resources that are available (coffee talks, presentations to the Board on specific topics) - helpful to have slide decks as well as video recordings
- 1-pagers
- clips of certain topics vs. watching the entire presentation
Input from parent surveys:
The rankings of the topics are:
1.) Rigor (Math, ELA, etc.) & Preparedness
2.) Differentiated Support for Struggling Students
3.) Differentiated Support for Advanced Students
4.) Professional Development for Teachers
5.) Classroom Culture & Management
6.) Racial Opportunity Gap
7.) Communication to Families
Draft priorities - to be revisited
Increase opportunities for in person parental involvement on campus
Improve communication with parents around their children’s learning experiences, including differentiation and rigor
Set and periodically measure progress toward schoolwide goals, including around increasing student achievement across groups
Continue to provide professional development for teachers in a targeted way with related coaching prior to and following trainings
