Background:
Aiming for an international experience (2017/2018)
France & Spain vs. Costa Rica & Canada
EFT Tours - immersion experience French/ Spanish
Minimum 30 students
Price range 1,000 - 1,500 vs. 3K
Paschale & Thomas (UC) have experienced
Minnesota Global Villages - at the time, languages were offered all at once
~850 per student
Current: GA history/ Savannah trip
Language exchanges - hope on ongoing relationships
One language at a time, on a rotating basis - at some point in middle school, 6th / 7th / 8th you would have the opportunity to go to another country. More parent participation; less obvious if you don’t attend
Fall break or spring break timing so less expensive flights / not missing as much school / students who don’t attend feel less left out
Current ideas:
As of kindergarten, set up savings account toward 8th grade trip
Parent concerns (via 2018 survey) were not only price but safety concerns, not comfortable sending that age child abroad
Staff as chaperones, not parents
Local “language camp” possibility - Pascale D. may follow up
Family trips abroad over the summer but with the possibility of scholarship assistance
Local organizations to partner with
Action items:
Auction - special project to help fund 8th grade trip
Bank that GLOBE works with could help set up multiple savings account
Parent survey
If we organized this kind of trip, would you potentially send your child? (can select “yes” for any or each) - 3 separate questions
If “no,”
Check off areas of concern for each:
Provide information:
Specific messaging:
Seeking parental input & priorities & thoughts, as we explore this options, so we have a sense of community’s preferences as we move forward / which to focus on
