Vision, Mission and Core Values
Vision: To develop globally minded citizens who have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effect positive change in our world.
Mission: The GLOBE Academy fosters Global Learning Opportunities through Balanced Education for children of all backgrounds. With a focus on dual-language immersion, an experiential-learning model, and a constructivist approach, GLOBE inspires students to be high- performing lifelong learners equipped to make a positive impact in the world.
Core Values: The GLOBE Academy’s core values are expressed in the acronym, CREST: Community, Respect, Empathy, Sustainability and Trust. These values are expected of the governing board, faculty, staff, parents, and students. They are woven into daily life at GLOBE and incorporated into the curriculum.
 Community: We are inclusive, and we nurture and support one another.

 Empathy: We strive to understand and share the feelings of others.
 Sustainability: We aim to conserve our resources for optimal use in the present and future.

D. Reynolds called a meeting of the Academic Committee of The GLOBE Academy to order on Friday Mar 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM.

D. Reynolds made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Committee Meeting on 02-19-21.
S. Manns seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Academic

A.

Committee: Additional Support for Target-Language Learning 

  • Karen, Lauren, and Cat will continue to meet on Thursdays
  • Leadership Team will meet to discuss and offer guidance on next steps

B.

GLOBE efforts on race-conscious curricula

We discussed:
  • We summarized the work of Conscious Roots in the professional development training with school staff. 
  • We identified areas of focus: 
    • In the curriculum 
    • In the community 
  • We also discussed how we think about race-conscious education alongside other areas where power and privilege are inequitably distributed - e.g. across gender, class, sexual orientation, ability, age, and other areas. 
  • We also discussed potential programs and activities that might promote this work
Next steps:
  • We have identified that there are areas where we can continue to grow in making our community more inclusive. 
  • Next meeting: Will discuss change processes/structures that could guide our community in this effort.
