Rudolph Douque provided gratitude toward administration about use of screen time at school.  Created a what's app for parents to raise concerns about screens at school.  Encouraged by policy created.  Want a consistent policy across board with teachers about impact of apps, screen time.  Desire to partner with teachers and admin.

- Science and Social Studies limited b/c only 5th and 8th 

- no breakdown for economically disadvantaged students

ELA results won't be out until November; state still has to finish setting score thresholds; numbers will not be comparable b/c standards changed

Gains for middle school science

Lower Campus - GLOBE outperformed state and Dekalb except for Science.  This is not a comparison to other DLI schools.  

Science:

Milestones is administered in English.  Science is taken at LC in language.

Different students year to year

Priority Gaps:

Do not have English/Language Arts results

1. - 5th grade science; every subgroup trails state; looking at curriculum, teacher appreciation and DLI instructional model

2 - Middle School mathematics; same grade band, white students had 8.9 gain and black students lost 22 points; black students in elementary improved by 5 points, specific to middle school and emerges as students move up in grades.  will investigate further 

Connection to School Goals:

Students with disabilities improving - math at all grades was large enough numbers to report; can't tell if we are meeting goal.  Identifying other data sources.  will review MAP scores and will have data not suppressed.

Map how experiential learning is integrated - Science data gives us data to understand gaps 

Groups we can see:

Black, Hispanic, White, Female, Male, Students with disabilites in grade 6

big takeaway - elementary science is only where each group tails state; appears to be instructional issue.  MS science and math are strong but can fluctuate b/c numbers are small.

Ethnicity - Black students are 6.4 above statewide peers in math.  Hispanic are 1.9 above.  instructional practices are working for math.  Leadership will look at these outcomes.

Internal white/black gap matches the state or is narrower except with middle school math.  Our gap is 9.8 points.  Narrows problem down to actionable item.  Find out what happened in 6-8 math.  Gap can narrow b/c top can fall so need to determine why the gap.  

Year over year change - looking at math at each year (same cohort of students).  

GA reports boys ahead of girls.  Boys 9 points ahead of girls in social studies.

Next steps - vertical meetings with science teachers K-8 and will continue to meet to discuss curriculum; k-5 science curriculum; opened science lab for enhanced experiments

S.Ellis asked about whether there is a difference between students new to GLOBE perform differently.  

D. Gibney Torres pointed out that could be COVID related because we are looking at cohorts.  

A. Tertichny commented that numbers of students are helpful.

F. Sun asked about when the testing occurs and when scores are available.

A. McMillion asked about new baseline for ELA standards and whether that is a statewide.

A. McMillion asked about science instruction being in language and also time for the subject seems short and wanted to know about the time being instructed for the subjects and asked about black students gain in mathematics but question about percentages and data sources for the 5.9 gain. D. Gibney answered year to year data.  A. McMillion asked about MS math achievement gap - what's informing that?

R. Lofstrand answered that data needed to be added.

C. Elliott stated that grade level standards are different for science in 5th than any other grade.

S. Ellis asked about 5th grade science and that fact that scores are low and taught only in language and whether science can be taught in English to help the scores.

D. Gibney had opposite suggestion and believes may be more complicated than not taught in English.  

C. Blunt also pointed out that 5th graders last year did not have Science connection.  

C. Elliott explained that teachers create standards vs curriculum programs.

S. Daniel reported AP exam scores. Scores are not directly reported to school.  92% pass rate. 80% global results.  14 students took the exam.  Website has been updated.  Professional learning in spring - DLI conference; able to send significant staff annually.    Language capstone coming soon.

STAMP scores shared in the spring and will be shared again in the spring.  

S. Yasyerli discussed purpose of annual fund.  Not pushing a specific amount - want it to be meaningful for families.

Annual fund challenge is underway - popsicle challenge.  

Closer to $27,000 (18-19%).

Top three classes at each campus will win King of Pops party.  Friday September 11th is last day.

Then we will get ready for GLOBE Trot.

C. Boyd reported engaging entire GLOBE community.  Striving for 100% participation.

Development Office, Sara Haj-Hussein,  discussed donor centric model and recognition and making sure all recognition.  Avoiding donor fatigue.

GLOBE Trot date is November 20th.
