Announcements and updates: Executive Order Updates

What? So what? Now what?

“What” – executive order to get rid of DEI; have a response to that order from our MA state governor and attorney general; MA state leadership doubled down to continue to support DEI efforts.

“So What” – Mario shared his higher education perspective; Bentley will not be changing their DEI stance and efforts, particularly supportive to women. “R1 R2 R3” – various level of federal government funding; Bentley does not rely on federal government funding; not the case at other high ed institutions. What does this mean for Parker – Tiffany – we are fortunate to be in MA; we should keep going and continue our work in the DEI space.

“Now what” – Per Brian -Parker DEI work should continue as planned and inline with state guidance.  Parker may not get federal grant that supports keeping teachers of color at Parker. Are there things we need to be thinking about (Tiffany asked); as a school we are thinking a lot about our students; making sure that students know where Parker stands with respect to DEI. Cultural connections group continues its work. Kryz – commented about feedback from Parker community members (ex parents), are there talking points that should be developed to support teachers and students regarding DEI efforts.  Brian sharing how he is using Friday letters to reinforce various elements of DEI. We need to do better to prepare Parker teachers to support BIPOC students.  We need to identify BoT training for this spring – what does that look like.
