Announcements and updates: Equity in Action Updates

  1. Equity in Action

-Brian re-stated school position/policies in place to have kids feel safe at school with respect to potential ICE coming to the school;this is not a policy change; leaning on MA state law that we provide education to all kids, regardless of immigration status; DEI programs are under assault

-How do we engage students, staff, families, the BoD better in this space; this committee is more important than ever with the current environment.

- Tiff brought together this new multicultural connections community group – kids of different religions and cultures brought together; activities planned à focuses on advocacy; thinking about putting out a publication monthly and bringing in visitors; engagement is good; group is benefiting by the adults providing structure in this space

-Equity Triangle – advocacy, education, and safe space

  1. Brian shared high level summary of organizational work being undertaken to enable the strategic plan.

C.

Cultural Tree

  1. Introduce and engage in the Cultural Tree by Zaretta Hammond
  2. Brainstorming goals for board PD on DEI
  3. Feedback on Cultural Tree activity
    1. Overall feedback is that the cultural tree model is very rich and a powerful tool; would be helpful to translate the trunk and roots elements into tangible actions that teachers can take to foster all students feeling known well.
