Announcements and updates: Equity in Action Updates
- Equity in Action
-Brian re-stated school position/policies in place to have kids feel safe at school with respect to potential ICE coming to the school;this is not a policy change; leaning on MA state law that we provide education to all kids, regardless of immigration status; DEI programs are under assault
-How do we engage students, staff, families, the BoD better in this space; this committee is more important than ever with the current environment.
- Tiff brought together this new multicultural connections community group – kids of different religions and cultures brought together; activities planned à focuses on advocacy; thinking about putting out a publication monthly and bringing in visitors; engagement is good; group is benefiting by the adults providing structure in this space
-Equity Triangle – advocacy, education, and safe space
- Brian shared high level summary of organizational work being undertaken to enable the strategic plan.
C.
Cultural Tree
- Introduce and engage in the Cultural Tree by Zaretta Hammond
- Brainstorming goals for board PD on DEI
- Feedback on Cultural Tree activity
- Overall feedback is that the cultural tree model is very rich and a powerful tool; would be helpful to translate the trunk and roots elements into tangible actions that teachers can take to foster all students feeling known well.
