II. Business

A.

Updates

  • shared about Todd, Glenn, and MRM going to the GSA 20th potluck
  • shared about banner competition (no takers yet!)
  • shared new language for "Welcome to Parker" letter
  • Glenn suggested the yard signs being in English and Spanish

B.

Getting Ready to Table

  • Prepping for tabling.
  • Todd: Thinking about "inclusion" more broadly after the GSA celebration.
    • concrete areas -- allergies, transportation/access to carpool, and religion (Jewish holidays in particular)
    • "larger field of curiosity" to surface things we should look at/broaden the lens to figure out what we're not seeing
    • Stef: could serve our original purpose and then some; one risk is losing attention to issues of race & ethnicity
    • Glenn: acknowledging the existing diversity & the areas for growth; yet there is no two ways around the lack of racial diversity; thinking about celebrating everything there is to celebrate about difference
    • Amy: might help us figure out where to go next; help us recognize what is happening
    • Stef: state our purpose - precursor is the belief that we want all the community to be respected, empowered, etc. & could report back to the community
    • Todd: could aim out to the year-end survey?
  • Thinking about tabling
    • chalk talk with these areas (respect , belonging, empowered)
      • or "What does diversity & inclusivity at Parker mean to you?"
    • will parents participate?
    • one goal: our committee exists and we care about "diversity & inclusivity"
    • really looking for student and community input to enrich and enhance our mission here - we want to be thoughtful - we have a great, diverse population in some ways and want to work on other areas..."What does this mean to you?"
    • also an opportunity for recruitment
    • perhaps also have a half sheet about the committee (what we're all about/mission statement; what we've done  like MNET and what we are pushing for like awareness)
    • MRM takeaway: get our students started on it & draft materials for the day
Question: Do we know the diversity of our pool of accepted students? We had spoken about tracking geographic areas.
